| Details of property for sale |
Fed up with the rat race, and the associated hassle, crime rate etc? Then this is the house for you!
2005-built 'Heather Lea' is set in maturing grounds extending to a quarter of an acre on the tranquil Scottish Island of Gigha, near the Mull of Kintyre.
The award winning Dualchas-designed residence enjoys stunning uninterrupted views across the island and Sound of Gigha towards the Kintyre Peninsula.
The house consists of a spacious laminate wood floored open plan living/dining area 9.1m x 5.3m(at widest point) , four bedrooms, two bathrooms (one of which is large en-suite dressing room), galley kitchen and utility space for washing machine, tumble dryer and electrical cabinet.
Exterior disability access ramp leads to rear door.
Special features inlude a central cathedral ceiling with separate staircases on either side accessing upper rooms, 8m double glazed Scandinavian 'Nordam' glass frontage with large sliding door on to exterior decking, and focal point of multi-fuel stove on slate tile plinth.
Gigha (pop. 142 and commonly known in Scotland as God's Island) is 100 per cent crime free and one of the few places left where house doors are never locked and car keys remain in the ignition. The quality of life in this very caring and friendly community has to be experienced to be believed. The sale of 'Heather Lea' offers a truly once in a lifetime opportunity to live in a manner which can only be dreamed about. These attributes are, naturally, reflected in the asking price of the house, which is ideal as a family home, retirement base with a lucrative two-room (or three!) b&b potential, or upmarket holiday let. It is the closest to the ferry landing!!
The island climate is very temperate, being directly affected by the North Atlantic Drift (Gulf Stream). Floods are completely unknown here, and sharp frosts/snow etc are rarities. The famous 50-acre Achamore Gardens (open to the public year round) is home to palm trees, azaleas, huge rhododendron collection and exotic tropical plants from all the world's continents.
Gigha has a nine-hole golf course, refurbished village hall, post office/shop, church, primary school, renowned hotel and bar open all year, and licensed bistro (summer months) - all of which are close by. Sea fishing facilities, the main species being pollack (lythe), mackerel and saithe are also available. Several large tope have also been caught in the Gigha Sound.
Dolphins, otters, seals and basking sharks can be seen in the waters surrounding the island.
Mainland Kintyre is a mere 20-minute Caledonian MacBrayne car ferry crossing away, and Tesco, Co-op supermarkets etc can be found in the main Kintyre town of Campbeltown, a 20-minute drive south of the ferry terminal.
